Three steps to your meadow.
Find the grass.
Open Touch Grass and choose “Open My Garden.” The grass icon in your menu bar brings you back any time.
Press, drag, exhale.
Brush with your mouse or trackpad. Watch the blades bend and settle, and collect a few Grass Points.
Make yourself at home.
Plant flowers in the shop. Use the gear menu for weather, lighting, sound, Zen Mode, and break reminders.
I opened the app. Where is my garden?
Touch Grass lives in the menu bar at the top of your screen, without a Dock icon. On first launch, choose “Open My Garden” in the welcome window. After that, click the grass icon to open or close your garden. If your menu bar is hidden, move the pointer to the top of the screen to reveal it.
How do I earn points and plant flowers?
Press and drag across the grass to earn Grass Points. Hovering or holding still does not earn points. Open the flower shop in the top-right corner, choose a flower, and click a valid spot to plant it. “Move a flower” lets you rearrange your garden for free. Press Escape to cancel placement.
Why is there no sound?
Sound starts muted. Click the speaker button beside the gear menu to unmute, then open Settings → Sound to enable grass rustling or wind and rain ambience and adjust their volumes. Sound fades out when the garden closes.
How do I leave Zen Mode?
Press Escape to bring the controls back. You can also right-click the garden and choose “Exit Zen Mode.” Your garden stays interactive and continues earning points while the controls are hidden.
How do Focus Breaks work?
Open Settings → Focus Breaks, enable reminders, and choose an interval. Allow notifications when prompted. Reminders work only while Touch Grass is running and pause while the garden is open. macOS Focus and notification settings can silence them. Missed reminders do not pile up.
Can I use the app offline? Does my garden sync?
The app works offline without an account. Your flowers, Grass Points, and preferences save automatically on this Mac and do not sync between Macs. Flowers do not wilt and never need watering.
The app says my garden could not be saved. What should I do?
Open the garden’s error details and keep your existing saved files. “Retry saving” retries a failed write. “Reload saved garden” reloads a repaired file, and “Restore previous save” recovers the last valid backup, which can roll back your most recent changes. If you are unsure, email me before deleting or replacing anything.
Which Macs are supported?
Touch Grass requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and supports both Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Settings → Accessibility lets you follow the system’s Reduce Motion preference or choose reduced motion explicitly.
